Faculty Scholarship Series 2025: Open-Access, Article Processing Charges, & Knowing Your Scholarship Impact

Faculty Scholarship Series 2025: Open-Access, Article Processing Charges, & Knowing Your Scholarship Impact In-Person

Publishing open access has become ubiquitous in academia and will continue to grow as any federally funded study must be open access when published starting in 2026. Many obstacles and concerns surround open access publishing, especially predatory journals and avoiding the escalating costs of Article Processing Charges (APCs). We discuss strategies to avoid these pitfalls. We also discuss recent agreements that may waive OA publishing APCs for Buffalo State faculty. Finally, we will demonstrate tools available for faculty to measure the reach and impact of their publications. These tools can assist with creating positive narratives for tenure-track faculty.
