Express Yourself: The Benefits of Expressive Writing

Express Yourself: The Benefits of Expressive Writing In-Person

Dr. James Pennebaker, an American social psychologist and psychology professor at the University of Texas developed an expressive writing prompt to identify the potential health benefits of writing about emotional upheaval and stressful or traumatic events. Pennebaker's research has been replicated many times with positive outcomes, and is referred to as the Pennebaker Paradigm. Some of the health benefits that have been linked to expressive writing, include better sleep, improved mental health, and a reduction in blood pressure.

In this session, we will:

  • Explore and understand the impact expressive writing has on our physical and emotional well-being
  • Practice expressive writing
  • Discuss the writing experience

Note: Please have a pen and paper nearby for the writing portion
