*Cancelled* - Card Game Series: Euchre In-Person
In this "Card Games" workshop, players will learn the game of Euchre (pronounced “YOU-ker”), deemed the most popular "family" game in the late 1800’s. Using a half-pack of cards from the Ace through 9, players are dealt only 5 cards, and a card is turned up on the remaining pack to begin the trump bidding. Once a trump suit is determined, players work in pairs to take a majority of the tricks (at least 3 of 5) and get a bonus if they take all 5. If the opponents take the majority, though, then you have been EUCHRED! Feeling especially frisky with a good hand? Then a player can Go Alone and play solely against both opponents while their partner "stays home" for that hand. A game originally thought to be popular with farmers due to its speed, Euchre is a 4-person trick-taking game played to a score of 10. For the first time, players will be forced to cope with the changing rank of certain cards - the Jacks, called “Bauers” or "Bowers."
