No More School House Rock: Decolonizing Our Curriculum In-Person
This workshop offers participants some insights into the pedagogical assumptions that have hindered our representations of diverse identities and experiences in the classroom. We provide information about some relevant historical contexts that inform our teaching, screen two short videos that illustrate the pervasiveness of Western colonial attitudes, and discuss the differences between explicit, implicit, and null curricula. Attendees will participate in an activity that illustrates different types of intersectionality and will contribute to a glossary of terms related to intersectionality and decoloniality.
Presenter: Alexandra Allen, Holly Bewlay, Jennifer Ryan-Bryant, Fox Connelly, Erin Habes, and Katie McCabe.
