Card Game Series: Cribbage

Card Game Series: Cribbage In-Person

In this "Card Games" workshop, players will learn the game of Cribbage, a game invented in the 1600’s by Sir John Suckling. Cribbage is another game in which players score points through various card combinations: 15s, 31s, pairs, 3- and 4-of-a-kind, runs, flushes, "His Heels," "His Nobs," and others. A hand of Cribbage occurs in distinct phases, including laying away (discarding to the dealer’s crib), the playing, and the showing. Finally, players will learn how to score on the mysterious cribbage board, and they will learn when to shout the whimsical word "MUGGINS!" to gain extra points.

Depending on class size, players will learn the 2-person or 4-person version. Cribbage is one of the few games truly great for 2, 3, 4, or 6 players, making it a versatile game with any number of people. Instructions will be provided for these alternatives, too, and the class may experiment with these versions depending on time and class size.
