Human Library In-Person

A Human Library (http://humanlibrary.org) is an event designed to bring together people from different background and situations to engage in meaningful interactions. The “books” are real-live humans with diverse, marginalized, or underrepresented backgrounds, such as those who identify as homeless, LGBTQIA, or refugees. “Readers” are community members who “borrow” these books for a brief conversation during the event.

This event allows attendees to speak honestly and openly with a person they might not otherwise come into contact with. These one-on-one interactions can increase understanding and empathy – two qualities that are becoming increasingly important in today’s partisan political and social climate.
